30/06/07 Pre-Season and Opening Fixtures
Vale will kick off a tough pre-season programme when they welcome Motherwell to Victoria Park on Monday July 30th. It's a repeat of last year's fixture in which a young 'Well side featuring a number of eye-catching players beat Vale 6-2 and the game kicks off at 7.00pm. This is followed by another home game against Edinburgh University on Thursday 2nd August, again kicking off at 7.00pm. The following Saturday, 4th August, Vale travel up to Perthshire for a match against SJFA club Kirriemuir Thistle, kicking off at 2.30pm. Back in Innerleithen, Livingston will be the visitors on Wednesday 8th August in a match starting at 7.15pm. Please note that previoously announced fixtures against Cowdenbeath and Haddington Athletic have had to be cancelled due to player unavailability. Pre-season fixtures are particularly vulnerable to change or late postponement, so if you are travelling any distance to come to these games, please check with either club before setting out.
After some excellent summer signings, manager Stuart Robertson now has a number of options, particularly in wide and forward areas, and the pre-season games will be interesting as we can expect to see different formations tried out before the real action starts on the 11th of August as Vale play their first group game in the Colin Campbell Sports League Cup at home against Hawick Royal Albert. The competition has undergone it's annual shake up and will this time consist of four sections of six sides with the winners of each section going forward to the semi-final stage. Along with the Royalists, Vale find themselves up against last season's Tyreman Premier Division champions Annan Athletic, their fellow top flight sides Easthouses Lily and Selkirk, plus Heriot-Watt University who, despite being relegated at the end of last term will be looking to regenerate under new boss John Young.

10/06/07 A Look Forward to Next Season....
Preparations are well under way for the forthcoming season at Victoria Park, with manager Stuart Robertson and assistant manager Robbie Clark busy team-building. Many people have lamented the low numbers of local players appearing in a Vale shirt in recent years. It is something the club were keen to address and has resulted in half-a-dozen superb signings over the close season.
Richard Edge and Greig Shortreed have arrived from Peebles, this is the second spell at Vale for 'Eggo', who is, like 'Shorty', a wide midfielder who can operate on either side of the pitch and has an eye for goal. Both men are joined by their former Whitestone Park team mate Campbell Forsyth, a tall centre-half.
It's unfortunate that Leithen Rovers treble-winning side of last season is starting to break up, but players are moving on to a higher level of football with the blessing of Rovers manager Alan Notman. Vale welcome a trio of last season's key players to Victoria Park, with goalkeeper Mark Wilson, who made an appearance against Hawick Royal Albert at the tail end of last season, joined by combatative midfielder Colin Smith and striker Aaron Somerville. The signing of Somerville is something of a coup for Vale - after netting 37 goals in the Border Amateur League last season, the young front man was unsuprisingly in demand, with Selkirk and Gala Fairydean keen to capture his signature.
Next season's side will be captained by John Saunders, who has re-signed along with another six players who will all be going into their third season at the club - brothers Raymond and Ronald Fleming, Ross McManus, Scott Johnston, Lewis Montgomery and Mike MacKale.
All these players, plus a number of trialists, a few of which may well secure a place in the squad, report back for training on Monday June 25th.

08/06/07 A Look Back at Last Season....
A review of season 2006-07 is now up, read it here. Thanks to all our match sponsors, ball sponsors and advertisers for their support over the last year, it is appreciated by everyone at the club. Unlike previous years, 2006-07's match programmes have not been made available for download during the close season - this is because, quite frankly, they weren't all that good, but if you missed any, email and we'll send you a pdf of the one(s) you want. Match programmes were produced for the pre-season friendlies against Motherwell and Cowdenbeath, and for all home league and cup matches, with the exception of the final league game against Ormiston.
